The CO2 Laser

Move Over, Luke Skywalker! Dr. Golden is here!

Laser is the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, and the use of lasers is literally revolutionizing dentistry. The single thin beam of flight emitted from a laser cuts more precisely than even the sharpest scalpel, reducing discomfort and bleeding, improving healing with less scarring, and even eliminating the need for stitches in many cases. And the accuracy of the surgical laser allows Dr. Golden to offer an effective alternative to more complicated treatments, and, in some cases, to offer new treatments where none had been available before.

The CO2 laser that Dr. Golden uses has been used for more than 10 years in dental surgery, and has been cleared by the FDA for soft tissue use (that is, procedures involving the gums, lips, and cheeks, etc.). It offers bloodless procedures because the laser actually seals blood vessels as it cuts; little or no swelling, because the laser also seals lymph vessels as it cuts; no risk of infection, since the laser sterilizes as it works; and a virtually painless experience of both the procedure itself and post-operative healing, since the laser does not traumatize surrounding tissue. Sandblasting' Decay Without A Drill

Got a cavity but hate the drill? Those days of whirring, noisy cavity preparation are over thanks to the KCP system, Dr. Golden's new cavity preparation technology that reduces heat, vibration, and the need for anesthesia.

With the KCP system, tiny particles of pure, biocompatible substance are used to sandblast' decay away with a gentle, whooshing' action. The system is so gentle, it won't disturb healthy tooth material the way drills sometimes can, so it preserves the strength of the tooth, making it less likely to require a crown in the future. In fact, the KCP system is so gentle, it can be used to treat pregnant patients and children who previously could not or would not be treated.
